2009 Coachella Lineup Announced

New Black Lips Song: Short Fuse

I have been a fan of the Black Lips ever since Good Bad Not Evil came out in 2007. I never realize what albums I like the most or what albums I listen to the most until I look at my iTunes Play Count and realize how much I play a certain album. This was situation with Good Bad Not Evil.
With that said, I am pretty excited for their new album, 200 Million Thousand which comes out February 24th.
The following is on 200 Million Thousand and is called Short Fuse. Enjoy.

YACHT Summer Song

So this song is already a year and a half old but I just heard it and like it, so I am going to post about it. I saw Yacht open for LCD Soundsystem and he is a pretty entertaining act. Kind of like the high school geek who got good at sampling and playing around in garageband. I guess this song is an ode to LCD Soundsystem for taking him out on tour and for putting him in their myspace top 8.
From what I can tell, the song is filled with LCD Soundsystem samples, most notably the punching bass from “Time to Get Away” and a little synth sample from “Someone Great.” The drums might be from “Time to Get Away” as well. Can anyone spot anymore samples? Enjoy.

Jim Morrison Accurately Predicts the Future of Music
HIs prediction can be applied to a handful of dj’s, artists, etc over the last couple decades or so, but the follow video is relevant and I love it.
The Killing Moon Pavement Cover

I have kind of been obsessed with The Killing Moon by Echo and The Bunnymen over the last couple weeks which you might of seen in this post. I was listening to Sirius XMU the other day when this cover of The Killing Moon by Pavement came on. It grooves. The little guitar solo parts remind me of a nice rendition of Cortez The Killer.

The Beatles Jamming with Yoko Ono is Scary
I have never seen this before. Pretty cool and frightening at the same time. At around 5 minutes and 25 seconds, Yoko sounds like the lady in the following video….
NewVillager Shakes Its Finger At Pop’s Lucid Dream

“Buried deep in the American memory hole is this thing called NewVillager that threatens to—if not watched, and studied, and cornered—collapse all that is around it in on itself. NewVillager is, as you no doubt know, a part of a tradition that begins with Villager. Continued to Villager 2. And VillagerVillager. And VillagersAgain. And now to NewVillager. The Villager tradition ingests itself periodically, in its way following the model created by the Puerto Rican pop group Menudo. In fact, the only major difference between the process by which Menudo evolves and the way a Villager iteration forms is the Villager commitment to what they refer to as Radical Parthenogenesis.” — Matthew Simmons, The Daily Press, Escanaba Michigan, April 15, 1985

Memories of Playing in a High School Band: The McLovins
I saw this last month but forgot to post about it. Memories and nostalgia of jamming out in a suburban home basement, covering Phish, Grateful Dead and classic rock tunes flood my mind. Or how about the half an hour space freak out jam over A minor? Or recording a psychedelic sound collage for english class inspired by Walt Whitman?
Some of my best high school memories were playing in a high school band and we had our moments, but The McLovins are on a whole new level in regards to technical ability. I believe both basslovin and drumlovin are high school sophomores, while guitarlovin is still in middle school! Ahhh, playing phish covers in the basement. Gotta love it.
Check out the McLovin’s channel on youtube where they have some original songs and more Phish and classic rock covers.
Kanye West Leaks New Peter, Bjorn and John Track

Our Autotune friend Kanye West has leaked a new Peter, Bjorn and John track on his blog, which appears to be on their new album that comes out in March. I am not really sure what to think of the song yet. It features a children’s choir along the lines of D.A.N.C.E by Justice, which I think the song could of done without.
From Kanye’s Blog:
WORLD PREMIERE … THEY SENT THE SONG TO ME FIRST! PETER BJORN & JOHN… SHIT IS DOPE!! DRUMS ARE CRAZY AND I LIKE THE KIDS ON THE HOOK. THERE NEW ALBUM IS CALLED “LIVING THING” ….. WITH ALL THAT SAID I DON’T KNOW THE NAME OF THE SONG… LOL!!!… I’M GONNA ASSUME IT’S CALLED, “NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT

Dance Party Time: Empire of the Sun

Can we say contender for the best single stateside in 09′? Already getting major airplay in Australia since August, Empire of the Sun is a collaboration between Luck Steele of The Sleepy Jackson and Nick Littlemore of Pnau, both Australian based musicians. Already huge in Australia, the single “Walking on a Dream” is about as perfect a dance pop song gets. I fear I am going get incredibly sick of this song only because I have already played it on repeat 15 times in a row. It is such a short song that it is easy just keep playing it. Oh well, it is worth it.
I am predicting this song to catch on in the States over the next couple months and be huge. If it doesn’t, we are all collectively idiots. Or the song just doesn’t make it over here for some reason….. Also, if you haven’t already, check out The Sleepy Jackson. Good stuff. Their first album Lovers is a sure bet.
So here it is. Invite some friends over and have a dance party. I am sure I could bust out some sweet moves to this song. I took it for a little test drive on New Year’s.
*Thanks to Jeff for blasting this song on New Year’s Eve.
