A few of the things that I learned while camping in the woods – bells can scare bears away, never sleep with the fire still burnings, use a lot of insect repellant cream even inside the tent, and always bring a roll or two of duct tape wherever you might be.
I never knew that duct tape could be used as more than just an adhesive device. It could also save the life of a boat. Last week, when my dad, my sister, and I went camping, we rode on an inflatable boat to fish in the lake. Unfortunately, the boat had a cut accidentally sliced through it by a rock. It was a good thing my dad had duct tape so he taped the rip and it was enough to keep the boat together until we got back to land. I had been so thankful at that time that my dad carried around a roll of duct tape with him. I will never doubt it ever again.
